With Summer now approaching us, we are all hoping the warmer weather is coming too, we all think of Summer and healthy eating, Barbecues and lovely salads, we all like to make salads but the idea of having wet lettuce leaves never appeals and thanks to great companies like OXO good grips, Zyliss and CKS we have some very stylish designs for your kitchen in Salad Spinners, these gadgets are a must in any home kitchen especially in the summer, with the various actions of spinning either pulling a cord, pushing a knob or turning a handle makes the ease of working them really simple for anyone who wants to prepare the salad.
The salad spinners we have for sale on our site are the best we feel on the market, we visit the cookware trade fairs in the UK and Europe and make our selection of products we feel is the best, tried and tested by ourselves, so we know our customers are getting the best of any products.
The brands we have for you on the site are Zyliss, which we are able to sell the small and large salad spinners, they re both white in colour with a clear base, the operation is quite simple, place the salad in the basket, pop on the lid and pull the cord. The internal basket spins and the water expelled, giving you nice and presentable salad to serve on your table. Salad Spinners by Zyliss are Ideal for drying washed salad leaves, broccoli, spinach and any type of produce similar, we would advise that this product is washed by hand. We also have a small and large salad spinner from OXO Good Grips, these are a very stylish shape, slightly deeper, ideal for larger amounts of salad or vegetable leaves, they are clear and have a push down knob to spin the produce, which also has a non-slip ring on the base as well as a non-slip knob to operate the spinner, thereby allowing the spinner to stay firm on the surface when spinning, it has exactly the same spinning action as the Zyliss, expelling water as it spins, other produce you can dry are herbs and berries, with these spinners we would advise that this product is washed by hand after use. The three models we have available from CKS are in three different vibrant colours of Blue, Red & Green and in a jug style with a side handle to pour off the excess water, the spin action is with a handle on the lid being turned, these are perfect for preparing your salad, herbs or vegetable leaves for parties or entertaining, the CKS models are ideal for those of you who do not want to wash up as they are dishwasher safe.
All that is left to do is to go and find which one you would like to have for your food preparation this summer, get them before they all sell out.
Onion Goggles - a fantastic, fun must have for the kitchen that DO REALLY WORK!!!
If you are like me and suffer from onion fumes when chopping you will have tried freezing them from half an hour, running them under water and not chopping the root off while you try and cut the rest of onion. I have even tried to chop up my onion with my eyes shut …. the results weren’t great and my fingers didn’t think that idea was too brilliant either!
Well no more, simply pop on your goggles and get chopping. No tears, no ruined streaky makeup and no tingling eyes for ages after you’ve finished chopping. The unisex goggles have a foam seal to keep the nasty onion vapours away from your eyes. They come with a soft plastic case to help keep them from getting scratched and they fit most faces. Unfortunately though they do not fit over glasses.
The Onion Goggles were launched in the UK in January 2008 and we at Colanders have been selling them since then. We predicted that this Christmas they are going to be one of our bestsellers and they are selling so well it looks as though we’ll be right. The Goggles are now available in white and pink - oh and by the way the kids think they’re pretty fun too so you’ll have to come up with a good hiding place in your kitchen!
As usual in our office conversation turned to cooking and food - not really a surprise working in the industry we are in! We were chatting about what products we love to use and can’t even perhaps live without. The Oxo Good Grips Mango Splitter was without hestitation the item that Sheila Vidler, our buyer said that if she didn’t own she wouldn’t eat mango’s!
This isn’t a new product to the market but one that we know is very popular as we sell so many of them!
The splitter is so simple to use - in fact there there really is no skill to it at all. Simply put the gadget on top of the mango and push it down using the two handles. It cleverly guides itself down the stone leaving you with two halves of mango and very limited waste around the large stone.
Then all you have to do is either remove the skin or score the flesh into squares and turn inside out and …. voila a mango hedgehog!!! An easy way to help you eat mango with very limited waste and no fighting with a huge mango stone!
Americans have been using Bundt pans for years and I’m glad to say they are becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Their popularity is soon bound to skyrocket as The Domestic Goddess herself, Nigella Lawson, has included the fantastic Holiday Tree bundt pan in her beautiful new book - Nigella Christmas.
As we cannot hide from the fact that Christmas is fast approaching I decided to give the Holiday Tree Bundt pan a go. If I’m honest I thought there was no way this was going to work! How could a cake not stick and come out in one piece from the intricate design of the tin!! But look at my pictures - its not bad. I got the quantities a little wrong so I didn’t quite fill the tin but the amazing fact was it didn’t stick and it came out looking like christmas trees.
I followed the simple tips from Nordicware:
Brush the tin with oil or melted butter and tip out any excess
Dust with flour and again tip any excess away by tapping the pan several times
Slowly fill the tin to prevent air bubbles. Gently tap the filled tin on the work top to ensure any bubbles raise up and away from the outside of the cake.
Fill the tin only 3/4 full to prevent overflow - I obviously didn’t do this as I didn’t have enough mixture!
Bake and cool for 10 mins before turning out.
Well I’m pleased to say it was easy, enjoyable and the results are great. Roll on Christmas I’m going to be getting very adventurous with my Bundt pans!
